The Opportunity
We're looking for a Senior Product Engineer to join our growing team in Cape Town.
You'll work directly with the founder and alongside our existing developer, taking ownership of product logic, architecture, and the development of new features.
This isn't a role where you'll simply receive specifications and write code. We want someone who understands business problems, challenges assumptions, designs elegant solutions, and takes ideas from concept to production.
We're particularly excited about the opportunities AI creates, both in how we develop software and what our products can do. You'll have the freedom to experiment with new technologies, challenge conventional approaches, and find smarter ways to solve problems.
You'll join as a hands-on engineer with significant product ownership and the opportunity to grow into broader product and engineering leadership as the company scales.
What You'll Be Doing
Design and build complex product features from concept to production
Translate customer problems into intuitive, scalable software solutions
Take ownership of product logic, data models, APIs, and application workflows
Work closely with the founder to define requirements, challenge ideas, and shape product direction
Collaborate with our existing developer on architecture, implementation, and code quality
Explore opportunities to incorporate AI into our products and automate customer workflows
Use modern AI development tools to accelerate engineering and improve productivity
Make thoughtful technical decisions that balance speed, simplicity, and long-term maintainability
Continuously improve the product based on customer feedback and real-world usage
Help establish engineering practices and processes as the team grows
Who We're Looking For
Above all, we're looking for someone who thinks like a product builder, not just a programmer.
You're naturally curious about how things work, enjoy solving complex problems, and care about creating products that are as thoughtfully designed as they are technically sound.
You don't need someone telling you what to do every morning. You ask the right questions, understand the objective, and figure out the best way forward.
We'd like you to have:
5+ years of professional software development experience
Strong full stack development skills and experience building production applications
Experience designing business logic, backend systems, APIs, and databases
Demonstrated experience taking product features from idea to production
Strong product intuition and an appreciation for exceptional UX and design
Hands-on experience with modern AI coding tools and development workflows
A genuine curiosity about AI and its potential to transform software development and customer experiences
The ability to prototype, experiment, and validate ideas quickly
Strong engineering fundamentals and sound technical judgment
Excellent communication skills and a proactive, independent mindset
Even better if you have:
Experience building products at an early-stage SaaS startup
Experience developing mobile applications
Experience applying AI to real product features or business processes
Experience with complex B2B workflows or operational systems
